Winnipeg Jets Prospect Suffers Injury at Camp; Out Significant Time

The Winnipeg Jets started their preparations for the 2021-2022 season yesterday as they kicked off their training camp.

The Jets have a number of their top prospects competing at this camp, who have an opportunity to impress the coaching staff to earn roster spots on the NHL club.

One of those players is Dylan Samberg. Samberg is a twenty-two-year-old defenseman who was drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Unfortunately, Dylan Samberg left the first day of Winnipeg Jets camp injured

According to Sean Reynolds (@snseanreynolds on Twitter), Samberg fell backward in an awkward fashion and had to be helped off of the ice near the end of practice.

This was terrible news for the young standout defenseman who was looking to earn a roster spot after spending the 2021 season in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose.

Unfortunately today, the news only got worse as Jets General Manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff has announced that Samberg suffered a high ankle sprain. As Ken Wiebe reports (@WiebesWorld on Twitter), in the tweet below, this is an injury that can sideline Samberg out for a significant period of time.

Before the injury, all signs pointed to Samberg featuring in the majority of the Jets’ preseason games. Yesterday, Maurice had admitted that Samberg is someone who could feature in a number of preseason games for the Jets.

Most likely when Samberg returns from injury he will be assigned to the Moose. Last season Samberg had one goal, six assists, and a plus-four rating in 32 games played with the Jets AHL affiliate.
