The verdict is in, and to the surprise of no one, NBC has given a series order to the Night Court follow-up starring five-time Emmy winner John Larroquette, who is reprising his role from the original sitcom, and Big Bang Theory alum Melissa Rauch.
Rauch is also an executive producer on the Warner Bros. Television, Universal Television and After January Productions co-pro, alongside writer Dan Rubin (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Happy Endings), Winston Rauch and pilot director Pamela Fryman, while Larroquette will carry a producer title.
Based on the original multi-cam sitcom created by Reinhold Weege, the Night Court sequel series stars Rauch as “unapologetic optimist” Abby Stone, the daughter of Judge Harry Stone (played by the late Harry Anderson in the 1984-92 NBC comedy; Anderson passed away in 2018). Abby follows in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding (played again by Larroquette).
Larroquette won four consecutive Emmys for his Night Court role, which were followed a decade later by a guest actor win for The Practice.
Are you looking forward to Night Court being back in session?
Won’t be the same without (Harry) Anderson and (Markie) Post.
Or Charles Robinson, for that matter. (Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield are still with us, but I don’t know if they want to come back for the revival.)
I think Moll closed the door on this based on a comment he made when asked about playing Bull again in this series.
Can’t wait!!!
I agree, but having John Larroquette back might be interesting. I guess Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield were not interested in returning?
Can’t wait!!!!!!!
Get Brent Spiner back as Bob Wheeler, pronto.
AMEN!!!!
^^^ This.
That would be awesome!
It’s a shame Harry Anderson, Markie Post and Charlie Robinson have all passed away. Would have loved to see them make appearances along the way.
Hope Marsha Warfield (Roz) and Richard Moll (Bull) will show up at some point.
Agree. What a great show the original was.
Just based on the picture, I’d say it looks a little too bright and shiny. It should be a little more “gritty” like the original. It is an NYC municipal court, after all.
probably not brighter, just better camera technology in the last 20yrs that makes it look brighter.
Not every government building in NYC is a hundred years old with leaky pipes and faulty wiring…
Marsha Warfield was great in a few 911 guest appearances recently. I’d love to see more of her in anything.
I loved this show and I hope they do the original justice (maybe a little pun intended).
I loved night court but has anyone really thought this through? How does Dan Fielding play in 2021? Sexual harassment, abuse of the homeless, body shaming, abuse of power, ECT, ECT.
Still hilarious! Not at all PC and obviously not funny to the uptight crowd, but for the rest of us it’s fine.
(1) There’s no reason to assume that he’ll be playing the character exactly the same way, and (2) inappropriate behavior that finally got him busted is a perfect way to explain why Fielding isn’t a former New York Attorney General enjoying a fat retirement pension in Westchester.
He could only be there to be a target of political correctness. He was the show’s villain, but he still had redeeming qualities which made people like him. Nowadays, one misconstrued comment gets people fired.
Great. When is it coming on?
Shall we let them write the scripts and film it, first?
Ah, I thought this was being developed for Peacock.
I wonder who the mom is? Any chance it’s Markie?
Probably not, since she passed away earlier this year.
She still could be. It would be a lovely tribute to have an old photo of Markie as Christine and I’m sure there are some old promo photos with Markie and Harry as their characters. As anyone who has lost someone knows, life doesn’t stop moving.
it would make sense… I mean, she is blonde and so was Christine, and we all remember how things turned out between her and Dan.
Yeah, it makes sense!
Considering that Rauch is 41 years old, it’s more likely she is a daughter Harry didn’t know about during the series run. She would have been 12 or 13 when the series ended, so maybe he found out after.
“a guest actor win for The Practice”
And Larroquette was so great years later on Boston Legal
which was set in the same reality, but he played two different people?????
So looking forward to the new Night Court.
Will miss Markie Post and Harry Anderson tho. Can’t wait to see what good ole Dan has been up to.
Boston Legal is the best show!
NBC might finally have a comedy worth watching.
Seriously ☺️
Reboots are getting crazy, but I’m kinda looking forward to this one. Seems like it’s honoring the original.
.
Not sure we’ll see Moll in it though. He pretty much KO’d any reunions or anything. Seems he’s gotten a bit weird. But maybe he needs the money.
He seemed a little odd even back in the day
I’m…cautiously curious. I’ll give it a try, but the original holds a special place in my heart as one of my very favorite shows growing up. Having John Larroquette return is huge for me. But reboots are a mixed bag. Fingers crossed they make Harry and the old gang proud.
Same – I adore John Larroquette and will watch him in just about anything, but they better do right by the original.
I love it! Melissa Rauch is the perfect person to play Harry’s daughter. She has great comic timing. And to have the great John Larroquette reprise his role as Dan is brilliant. He was my favorite character on Night Court. I hope he still plays Dan as a cad.
… older, crankier, but I bet he has a soft spot for Harry’s daughter.
As long as it’s as well written with great characters like the original I’m in.
Yes – But, they will never be able to replace Marki Post.
Markie Post was herself a replacement. Ellen Foley did a fine job before her.
Billie was an okay character, but Christine was the perfect Yang to Dan’s Ying.
Also, Markie was the 4th def atty on the show.
Markie replaced Ellen who replaced Paula Kelly who replaced Gail Strickland from the pilot ep.
And somewhere in between was Shelley Hack’s aborted run (in the 2nd season, I think) as love interest to Harry Anderson
Looking forward to it! Great casting.
Absolutely looking forward to it. Two of my fave actors.
Yea
I hope Night Court comes back wit the same irreverent humor. Loved the chemistry of the original cast. Unfortunately some of them has passed away 😢
Best of luck! I will definitely check it out.
Can Leslie Jones take Marsha Warfields place?
And maybe Ernie Hudson in the role of Mac?
Who the heck would take the place of Bull? Easy, Brad Garrett, or maybe spin it a little and Jane Lynch (or maybe she’d be better in the Roz’s character place!) lol.
It’s a remake I am looking forward too, but hope it doesn’t go by way of the countless reboots in the last 10 years.
If you are spinning, how about Hannah Waddingham? Obviously she can handle a comedy and be serious…
Because every replacement has to look like the original?
I think this could work.
Hopefully this will prompt them to get the original series out of mothballs and put onto one of the major streaming services!
It was airing on one of the OTA (over the air) digital channels you can pick up with a digital antenna. Not sure if it still is because I can’t find mine after having to move the tv out of my room when I needed to repair the ceiling after a tree branch crashed thru the roof into my bedroom during one of the ice storms (either Oct or Feb…can’t remember LOL).
plus people before you complain you never know where peacock might put it, as there much buzzed about series lost symbols that was slated for nbc before it became a peacock orginal, you can watch it without a subscription and oh also at least when you first watch the episode although after you go back and watch it again either no commericals or one commerical
Wonder if she is a fan of Mel Torme?
Abby would have been raised on the Velvet Fog, hopefully she at least appreciates him.
I loved the original. Hoping the new one is nearly as good.
