COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion and Colorado Springs native Amber English (shooting) visited Mayor John Suthers Friday while in Colorado Springs to visit family.
English, who won gold in skeet shooting at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and contributed to an American sweep in the event with teammate Vincent Hancock, is a U.S. Army Reserve First Lieutenant belonging to two elite units: the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program at Fort Carson and the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, Ga.
She attended Cheyenne Mountain High School and the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs, graduating from the university in 2012 with a degree in health sciences.
“I am extremely proud of Amber and her long list of community and service accomplishments, all while rising to the top of her sport to win a gold medal in Tokyo,” said Mayor Suthers. “She is an inspiring example for our entire nation, and a wonderful representative of her hometown, Colorado Springs – Olympic City USA.”
English, who is a former paramedic and has aspirations to return to the medical field, is a 2013 national champion and a 2018 world championship bronze medalist. When she is not training or competing, she enjoys hiking, fishing and hunting in the Colorado wilderness in and around the Rocky Mountains.
Her mother, Ana English, as well as Colorado Springs First Lady Janet Suthers and two members of USA Shooting’s staff were also with Amber for the visit with Mayor Suthers.
