Pop-In@Nordstrom x Levi’s Features Designers’ Creative Takes on Vintage Denim
The original jeansmakers, Levi’s is often the source of inspiration for creative designers . That sentiment is the foundation of a new installment of Pop-In@Nordstrom , a boutique concept within select Nordstrom locations and online that spotlights the products of different retailers, brands and designers on a rotating basis. The brainchild of Nordstrom director of creative projects Olivia Kim , the experimental retail concept has previously partnered with labels like Eileen Fisher, Goop and more.
Pop-In@Nordstrom x Levi’s centers on exclusive collections from designers Collina Strada, Melody Ehsani and Thompson Street Studio, all of which are promoted alongside a curated selection of Levi’s Authorized Vintage and Levi’s Red to showcase sustainable denim’s various interpretations.
Collina Strada designer Hillary Taymour displays her creative approach to eco-friendly denim by adding color, pattern and embellishments that nod to the ’80s and ’90s to repurposed vintage Levi’s jeans. The collection spans blue and green upcycled Trucker jackets and cropped jeans decorated with the designer’s signature swirl motif to hand-dyed 501 jeans.
Singer and model Ruby Aldridge wore a pair of bedazzled jeans from the collection to the MTV VMAs last week.
Known for using patchwork and hand-dyed natural indigo fabrics, Thompson Street Studio designer Kiva Motnyk applied the her artisan techniques to Levi’s jean jackets, 501 crop jeans and T-shirts. The collection brings sustainable denim into the home with patchwork cotton pillows, quilts and coasters.
Melody Ehsani’s collection pays homage to her husband, Michael Peter Balzary, aka Flea, the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist. Key “Fleavi’s” pieces include a straight-leg jean and denim jacket with laser prints of Balzary’s face.
The Levi’s Red assortment features workwear-inspired themes across items like belted loose denim overalls, a two-tone sack coat and high-waisted twisted-seam tapered jeans. Shoppers will find gems like classic 501 jeans in the Authorized Vintage range.
The Pop-In@Nordstrom x Levi’s underscores the popularity of vintage apparel, which has seen a surge in recent years. According to a recent report from online consignment and thrift store ThredUp, resale is projected to grow to $77 billion in the next five years.
Levi’s has recently doubled down on its own vintage initiatives, debuting Levi’s SecondHand last October. The initiative is Levi’s first buy-back program allowing customers to purchase secondhand jeans and jackets on Levi.com while also giving customers the opportunity to turn in their worn jeans and jackets in Levi’s stores for a gift card towards a future purchase.
Pop-In@Nordstrom x Levi’s will continue through Oct. 17 and will be available in select Nordstrom stores throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as online at Nordstrom.com/Pop. Items retail for $15-$650.
