Friday morning house fire displaces residents

Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of this fire at 922 E. Fifth Ave. called about 9 a.m. Friday.

A fire in a home on East Fifth Avenue in Hutchinson Friday morning that displaced the residents remains under investigation.

The occupants called 911 about 9 a.m. after discovering the fire at the back of the rental property at 922 E. Fifth Ave., Hutchinson Fire Chief Steven Beer reported.

Crews arriving at the 1 ½ story Bungalow-style home found a working fire on the Charles Street side of the property and made both interior and exterior attacks on the blaze, quickly bringing it under control, Beer stated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appeared to have started on the exterior of the home, Beer stated. No injuries were reported.

The Red Cross responded to assist the occupants. Also assisting at the scene were the Hutchinson Police Department, Reno County EMS, Evergy, and Kansas Gas. Blue Star Investments in Hutchinson is the owner of the $50,000 property, county records show.
