The district is partnering with Nomi Health, a direct health care company coordinating COVID-19 testing and vaccination efforts across the country. The drive-thru site located at the northwest corner of Technology Drive and World Cup Way offers both PCR and antigen testing.
To access the priority lane, students and staff must show their FISD identification. Younger students without IDs may identify themselves as FISD students. Nomi Health estimates that the PCR results will be returned in 24-48 hours and the antigen in about one hour.
"We know the availability of COVID-19 testing plays an important role in response and mitigation efforts," Brent Benningfield, FISD executive director of support services, said in a news release. “We are grateful that Nomi Health offered to provide a priority access line for our students and staff, which will benefit the health and safety of our campuses and the entire community.”
The release stated that this partnership ensures that students and staff have “quick and convenient access” to testing. In addition, the priority lane will help staff follow guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency last month, according to the release. The guidance requires campus staff who report close contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 to take a rapid test every other day for 10 days after the close contact.
If an FISD nurse identifies symptoms of COVID-19 in a student or staff member, they must quarantine until their symptoms improve and they have met one of the following criteria, outlined by the district’s mitigation guidelines:
- Ten days have passed since symptom onset.
- The individual provides proof of a negative PCR test. At-home tests are not accepted.
- The individual provides a doctor’s note that identifies the symptoms as something other than COVID-19.
Students and staff are not required to use Nomi Health, but the district said it “hopes that the FISD community will use this opportunity as one of many ways to slow the spread.” The location is also open to the general public.
How to get tested
Register online. Testing is free, but insurance information will be requested from people who have coverage.
The priority access lane will be open every day from 6:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., though there will be periodic closures or early closures possibly due to community events. Check the Nomi website for the most up to date hours and dates.
