Weld County team investigates after man struck when police return gunfire in Eaton

The Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating after two police officers shot a man who fired multiple rounds at police early Friday morning in Eaton, according to a news release from the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team.

Two Eaton police officers were called to the 1200 block of Aspen Court at 1:28 a.m. for a report of a disturbance in progress. Callers told dispatchers they could hear an argument taking place between a man and a woman.

Officers arrived a little after 1:30 a.m. and encountered a man who was armed with a gun. The man fired multiple rounds at the officers, according to the release.

The officers returned fire, striking the man, and provided him with medical treatment at the scene, the release states. He was transported to a local hospital.

The Eaton officers who responded were not injured during the incident. Officers from Garden City, Weld County Sheriff’s Office, Kersey, Ault and Eaton assisted after the incident with securing the scene. Some of those officers are also involved in the investigation as part of the Critical Incident Response Team. The team is comprised of a group of Weld County law enforcement agencies that investigate when someone is shot by police.
