There was a lot of anticipation and heartfelt joy leading up to the moment that Danecia Williams met the loved ones of the woman who saved her life.
Piper and Bart Malone traveled with their granddaughter from Texas for this reunion, a heart-to-heart.
"When you receive somebody else's organ, it's one thing. But then their heart is something, you know, totally different because you know when you think of the heart, you think of, you know, their very essence," says Danecia.
For her, it was a chance to get to know Rylee Malone.
"It's really important to me that I could connect to them," Danecia explains.
A 17-year-old whose life was cut short in a car crash, but whose heart ensures Danecia can live.
"Every parent wants their child to grow up and make a difference in this world and -- make me cry. This young lady is our validation that our daughter made a difference in this world," says Bart.
A difference a stethoscope allows them to hear.
"To hear Rylee's heartbeat again, I had the same feeling the day she was born," Bart says.
Now, Rylee's heart has another essential purpose -- keeping Danecia here for her son, Isaiah.
"It has just given me a chance to raise him, you know, and to be here with his," she says.
Bart said Rylee was also an organ donor for three other recipients, including a 4-year-old boy.
