Costco once again is restricting how much you can buy when it comes to certain essential goods.
Early on in the coronavirus pandemic, shortages of some goods caused Costco to limit the amount shoppers could purchase. Now, the warehouse giant is returning to that practice.
In a quarterly earnings call on Sept. 23, Richard Galanti, Costco’s chief financial officer, noted that Costco is “putting some limitations on key items.” These include:
- Bath tissue
- Paper towels
- Kirkland Signature water
- High-demand cleaning supplies
Costco’s COVID-19 updates webpage also notes, “Some warehouses may have temporary item limits on select items.”
Neither Galanti nor Costco’s site specified the precise limits.
A host of factors — from port delays and shipping container shortages to shipping delays and a shortage of truck drivers across the nation — have made it difficult to keep certain items on store shelves, Galanti said.
One year ago, it was a shortage of merchandise that was causing issues for Costco. But now, the source of the problem is different, as Galanti noted in the earnings call:
“Now they’ve got plenty of merchandise, but there’s two- or three-week delays on getting it delivered because there’s a limit on short-term changes to trucking and delivery needs — the suppliers.”
Even if you cannot get your favorite products in unlimited quantities, you can still score a good deal that will allow you to get more for your money at Costco.
Through Sept. 26, if you buy $100 worth of select items from Procter & Gamble brands, you can get a free $25 Costco gift card. For more, check out “How to Score a Free $25 Costco Gift Card This Week.”
