Burg Fest returning to downtown Warrensburg

Posted

WARRENSBURG — Following Warrensburg Main Street’s cancelation of Burg Fest in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns, the festival is returning to downtown Warrensburg on Friday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 2.

“After a year in which a lot of events were canceled, modified or rescheduled, Main Street re-evaluated all of their annual events and made changes to better accommodate our downtown businesses and the Warrensburg community,” a Warrensburg Main Street press release states.

Burg Fest has typically been hosted the last full weekend in September. However, the 2021 festival has been moved to the first full weekend in October.

The two-day outdoor street fair will include live music, local entertainment, children’s activities, a classic car show, a beer tent, an outdoor movie, a cornhole tournament and craft and information booths.

Vendor booths open at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The opening ceremony for the street fair will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the main stage that will be located behind the Justice Center.

The kick off activities will include the presenting of the colors by the University of Central Missouri honor guard along with the national anthem performed by UCM student Kathryn Marshall. Warrensburg Mayor Scott Homberg will then officially open Burg Fest Street Fair 2021.

Immediately following the opening ceremonies, live music will start on the main stage with Mudflap Mafia and headliner Travis Gibson.

In addition to the live music on Friday, there will be a featured family friendly movie and street carnival for kids. The carnival games, located on West Market Street, will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The movie featured will be “Raya the Last Dragon” and will start at 7 p.m. on the downtown courthouse lawn. The movie on the lawn is sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County.

The entertainment stage on Saturday will be located in front of the Johnson County Courthouse.

The stage will be packed all day with live performances from a variety of local talent starting at 10 a.m.

The Warrensburg Wheels Car Show will also add to the excitement at 8 a.m. Saturday. The classic car show, featuring more than 200 vehicles, will take place on Gay Street. The awards will follow at 2 p.m.

On Saturday night, live music continues on the main stage with performances by Random Access and The Nace Brothers.

On Saturday, the Kid’s Zone area will feature a variety of activities including bounce houses, a rock wall and a petting zoo.

The kids zone will have a $5 wristband for all kids 6 years and older. Wristbands can be purchased at the info booth located at the Old Drum Statue.

Stars-N-Stripes Athletics will also host a multi day cornhole tournament with divisions for all skill levels including kids.

The festival will be concentrated around the downtown courthouse and Justice Center.

Some events require prior registration for participation.
