Worker injured, allegedly causes explosion in Spencer

SPENCER, Mass. — A worker has been rushed to the hospital after allegedly sparking an explosion in Spencer at the New England Metal Service on Wire Village Road.

The Spencer Police Department confirmed Friday morning that at approximately 8:31 a.m., crews received reports of an explosion.

After arriving on scene, they found an employee burned. It was later determined that the individual tried to change a fuse, which ultimately caused the explosion to happen.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the State Fire Marshal, and local inspectional services are currently investigating the incident.

The worker was sent to UMass Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
