Monmouth County truck driver killed in Oakland Route 287 wreck
OAKLAND - A truck driver was killed after his tractor-trailer crashed on Interstate 287 early Friday morning, a New Jersey State Police spokesperson said.
Jose Velez-Procel, 54, of Atlantic Highlands, was driving south on Route 287 near mile marker 58 when his truck drifted off the right side of the highway, struck a guardrail and a concrete bridge rail, the spokesperson said. The tractor then separated from the trailer and fell off the I-287 overpass and onto Skyline Drive in Oakland.
Velez-Procel was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
