Boxing Legend Floyd Mayweather Called Out By Former Rival For $100m Super-Fight

Oscar De La Hoya has reignited his rivalry with Floyd Mayweather by calling out his fellow boxing legend for a lucrative rematch.

The 48-year-old boxing legend was slated to make his sensational return to the squared circle against UFC legend Vitor Belfort in September.

However, De La Hoya’s comeback at the Triller event was derailed after he tested positive for coronavirus and was forced to withdraw from the Belfort fight.

The American star told TMZ that he had recovered from coronavirus, but he described the experience as “five days of hell.”

De La Hoya has no plans to shelf his boxing return and has now turned his attention to Mayweather, who retired from the sport with an undefeated record in 2017.

“You know who I'm gonna call out for my next fight? Floyd Mayweather,” he said. “[...] I'll offer Floyd Mayweather $100million.”

Mayweather and De La Hoya initially clashed in a blockbuster mega-fight in 2007 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

The 44-year-old American superstar successfully defeated De La Hoya by a split-decision win and captured the WBC light middleweight title.

Despite retiring from professional boxing, Mayweather has returned to the squared circle for exhibition fights against the likes of Tenshin Nasukawa and Logan Paul.

The former five-weight world champ ruled out both a return to professional boxing and exhibition fights after he went the distance against Paul in June.

“Oh, absolutely not; I retired from the sport of boxing,” Mayweather said.

“I retired from the sport of boxing. I’ve said this before: it’s not easy, even for this fight.

“Just train a day and then take a couple of days off, train a day then take a couple of days off because of the age, because of the wear and tear of early on in my career.

“No punches to the head or anything, but just boxing and just sports period is really hard on the body, athletes, period. As far as me coming back to the sport of boxing [professionally], absolutely not.

“As far as me doing an exhibition again, probably not.”

De La Hoya, who initially retired from professional boxing in 2009, told DAZN in March that a rematch with Mayweather would be “massive.”
