Police issue a scam alert

Junction City police have received a call from an individual who was the target of a scam call. According to the person, the caller was posing as Chief of Police John Lamb and attempting to gather donations for a campaign that the Chief was running. Any call and or email making such claims are false. Chief Lamb is not running any campaign and is not trying to solicit donations of any sort. No one from the Junction City Police Department will ever call you attempting to silicate money for any reason.

Additionally, police said that they have heard reports of individuals receiving calls from people pretending to be other law enforcement officials from other agencies. If you receive a call asking for money on behalf of a law enforcement official, we recommend that you don’t provide any information or money over the phone. After the call ends, you should call the department the individual claimed to be from and inquire about the call.

Remember to stay safe online and over the phone, don’t provide any sensitive or financial information to people that you don’t know.
