Roger Michell, best known for directing “Notting Hill,” died Wednesday at 65, his family told Variety. Julia Roberts remembered him as “such a kind and gentle man” in a statement to People magazine. “He always had a sweet grin on his face and a perfect piece of direction to share,” said Roberts, who starred in the 1999 romantic comedy with Hugh Grant. “I feel so fortunate to have had such a fantastic opportunity to work with him.” Michell’s credits also include 1995′s “Persuasion,” 2002′s “Changing Lanes,” 2006′s “Venus,” 2010′s “Morning Glory,” 2020′s “The Duke,” and stage plays for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
