Hurts has been known to make things happen with his legs — either extending plays for downfield heaves or carving off chunks himself in the rushing game — presenting a different type of challenge for Parsons on Monday night. For his part, the Cowboys defensive rookie dynamo sees Hurts as next QB on his list to bury. “I would say every quarterback that’s on the season is on the hit list,” Parsons told media on Wednesday. “I want all of them. Herbert was just the guy I had that week. But Hurts, he’s on the hit list now too. You got to look at it like you’re trying to be the Terminator out there.”

Ezekiel Elliott: 27 rushes, 104 yards, 3.9 YPC, 1 TD. Tony Pollard: 16 rushes, 123 yards, 7.7 YPC, 1 TD. The Eagles were very good stuffing the run on Sunday against the 49ers, but San Francisco began having success on toss plays that avoided the Eagles’ DTs instead of trying to run through them. It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys copy that approach, and how Gannon adjusts. The Eagles won’t have to worry about Dak Prescott as a runner they way they used to. He does not yet look like the same player as a runner after his gruesome injury a season ago.

One of the byproducts through two games of this lack of middle-of-the-field passing game has been underwhelming production from the Eagles’ tight ends, who get paid to produce in the middle. The Birds have Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz again this season but neither have really produced much. Goedert has 6 catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. And Ertz has 3 catches for 40 yards. Through two weeks, the Eagles have used 12 personnel (two tight ends), on 25% of their offensive snaps and 11 personnel on 64% of their snaps.

26) Jalen Hurts. There was some bad luck in Philly’s frustrating offensive day against the 49ers, but there was also some surprisingly bad decision-making from Hurts on zone-read plays. Without a lot of chain-moving elements in the passing game, Hurts needs the schemed running game to work, especially in short yardage. The run sets up the pass in Philly so if the run isn’t working beyond scrambles, not much else will.

They could cut him after 2021, but he’ll get the difference between whatever someone else pays him (much less than $12.9 million) and the $12.9 million. If, as it seems, Elliott has begun to be less effective and if the Cowboys had the flexibility to cut the cord or squeeze him to take less, they would. Thanks to Elliott’s holdout, they can’t. Meanwhile, Pollard is under contract through next year. In early 2023, the Cowboys will have to decide whether to keep Elliott at $10.9 million, to sign Pollard to a new contract, or to move on from both of them.

Toney played 19 snaps in Week 2 vs. the Washington Football Team and was never targeted. Cam Brown (hamstring) did not practice. Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, Logan Ryan and Evan Engram were all listed as limited participants.
