The third annual "Iowa Oktoberfest" is back in Waterloo this weekend. The fall harvest celebration will once again fill downtown Waterloo with live music, contests, activities, games, food, and beer.
This event is free and will be held in the area of Anton’s German Bier Garden 518 Sycamore Street.
There will be live music with Kris & the Riverbend Dutchmen (6-7:45 p.m.) and Malek’s Fisherman Band (8:15-11 p.m.) on Friday.
The Best Beard Contest takes the stage at 8 p.m. Enjoy contests and games like Stein Hoisting, Keg Races, German Kubb, Hammer & Nails, and tons of fun throughout the Fest. More nightly features include Das Boot contest at 8:45 p.m. and the Best Dressed Contest in the evening.
Saturday’s fun family events include the Barktoberfest Doggie Parade beginning at 11a.m. and free pumpkins and painting at noon.
More live music with local musicians is planned throughout the day, too, ending with Barefoot Becky & the Ivanhoe Dutchmen Saturday night (6-10 p.m.).
There will be several German and American biers available, along with food for purchase throughout the weekend.
Oktoberfest was established in 2019 with the intention of bringing a fun party and celebration of our community’s German heritage. Volunteers and future committee members are needed.
