Man hit, seriously injured after struck by train in Norwich

NORWICH -  A man was seriously injured Thursday night after being struck by a train in Norwich, police said.

At approximately 8 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the area of Trading Cove Drive and Lucas Park Road for a report of an individual struck by a train.

Responders learned a man was hit by a New England Central Railroad train as it was crossing the trestle bridge that spans the Trading Cove, near the Norwich-Uncasville border, police said.

The victim was found near the trestle and responders used boats from area fire departments to bring the man to land. The victim, not identified by police on Thursday, was transported to The William W. Backus Hospital with “serious injuries.”
