Huawei nova 9 series announced with Snapdragon 778G 4G chipsets, up to 100W charging

Huawei’s latest midrange offerings were announced in China today with the nova 9 and nova 9 Pro. The pair bring OLED displays, 50MP quad cameras and utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G 4G chipset meaning neither device offers 5G connectivity.

The Pro model has a larger screen with two 32MP selfie cameras, VC graphene cooling and does up to 100W fast charging over USB-C. The rest of the specs are shared between the two as is the design. Both phones boot Huawei’s latest HarmonyOS 2.

nova 9 boasts a 6.57-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution while the Pro steps up to a 6.72-inch panel. The non-Pro houses a single 32MP selfie cam in the punch hole cutout. The Pro’s second 32MP selfie cam is of the ultrawide variety allowing you to fit more content in your shots. Both phones are outfitted with under-display fingerprint scanners.

Around the back both nova 9s feature a 50MP RYYB main sensor alongside an 8MP ultrawide angle snapper and two 2MP modules for macro shots and depth tracking.

The battery department and charging speeds are where the two phones differ more substantially. The vanilla nova 9 gets a 4,300mAh cell with 66W charging while the Pro dials the capacity to 4,000mAh but ups the charging speed to 100W. Huawei claims the Pro model needs just 20 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%.

Huawei nova 9 and 9 Pro come in blue, purple, green and black colors and go on open sale in China from September 29. The nova 9 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage starts at CNY 2,699 ($418) while the 8/256GB trim will sell for CNY 2,999 ($464).

The baseline nova 9 Pro with 8/128GB goes for CNY 3,499 ($542) while the 8/256GB trim will retail for CNY 3,899 ($604).

Huawei does quality and Samsung does quantity. You just get a better product from Huawei period.

The absence of 5G for that amount makes it less attractive. However, would really like to try the Harmony OS and get a feel, how is the performance of the OS??? any user or users?
