Myles Standish State Forest to host upcoming events

CARVER — Myles Standish State Forest, 194 Cranberry Road, will host the following events.  

All programs are free and open to the public. An adult must accompany children. Reasonable accommodations available upon request. Events are held at headquarters unless otherwise specified. Inclement weather will cancel events. For more information or to confirm, call 508-866-2526. 

Free Family Fishing Derby: 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at Fearing Pond. Bring the whole family to Fearing Pond for some fishing fun. Fishing is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; prizes awarded at 2 p.m. There will also be arts and crafts activities. Instructors will provide fishing rods and bait. No Massachusetts state fishing license required. Free parking. For all ages.  

Talking Trees: 1-2 p.m. Fridays, Sept. 30. Learn about the most common trees in the Massachusetts Pine Barrens ecosystem and what these silent giants can tell us if we know how to listen. Program consists of a 2.6-mile hike around the East Head Reservoir. Parking is free of charge. For adults and children over the age of 8.
