Prep Volleyball: Mitchell records 3-1 ESD victory over Watertown

Mitchell defeated Watertown 3-1 in an Eastern South Dakota Conference volleyball match Thursday night in the Civic Arena.

The Kernels prevailed 25-22, 18-25, 25-18 and 25-15 to improve to 9-4 on the season.

Karli Hanten made 139 good sets with 44 assists and 11 good serves with an ace, one block assist and 10 digs for the Arrows (5-7 overall).,

Kendall Paulson had 11 good serves and 56 spikes with 20 kills and 21 digs, Emily Tischer 11 kills on 39 spikes, Emma Koch eight kills on 27 spikes and one block assist and Eve Hauger six kills on 20 spikes. Jaclyn Lloyd added 17 good serves with two aces, Kayla Vohlken 15 good serves with an ace and eight digs and Maddi Rohde 18 digs.

The Arrows host Brookings on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Great Plains Lutheran 3, Waverly-South Shore 0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-9) — Mali York and Bryn Holmen combined for 19 kills to power the Panthers to the victory.

York went 17-20 spiking with 10 kills and 9-9 serving with three aces and one solo block for the Panthers (10-6 overall). Holmen was 18-22 spiking with nine kills, eight digs and one solo and one block assist.

Ellie Scharlemann finished 21-21 serving with five aces and nine digs; Olivia Giovannettone 11-11 serving with four aces and 41-41 setting with 15 assists, seven digs and one solo block; Olivia Holmen 8-9 spiking with five kills and Kyrie Roberts 22-22 setting with eight assists.

Emily Heuer went 11-11 serving, 11-11 spiking with four kills and 36-36 setting with seven assists and four digs for the Coyotes (0-16). Bridget Eschen converted five of six serves and eight of 11 spikes with three kills and eight digs. Capri Schroeder also tallied four digs.

Estelline-Hendricks 3, Deubrook Area 1 (25-17, 25-21, 14-25, 25-17) — The Redhawks won the Dakota Valley Conference match with 134 kills and 21 digs from Kate Wegner, 11 kills and six blocks from Kenzy Beare and 36 assists and 25 digs from Sadie Johnson.

Brooke Johnson added four assists, two aces and six kills and Rachel Hexem six kills and two blocks. Heidi Nicola notched 23 digs for the Redhawks, now 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the DVC.

Leaders for Deubrook Area (7-6 and 4-1) were Emma Vandermeer, 10 kills and four blocks; Hanna Kjelden, seven kills; Miranda Marovetz, 18 digs; Delaney Petersen, 16 digs; Taylor Ekern, 10 digs and Kyarra Blum, two aces.

Florence-Henry 3, Milbank Area 0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-11) — Trinity Watson went 13-14 serving and 37-38 setting with nine blocks to lift the Falcons to 14-2 on the season.

Macey Lane went 14-15 serving, Reese Schmidt 32-33 setting, Caylin Kelly 27-39 spiking with nine kills along with eight blocks and 16 digs and Taylor Watson 13-14 spiking with three kills. Carlie Moe made six blocks and Kaitlynn Koll 20 digs.

Arlington 3, Dell Rapids St. Mary 0 (25-14, 27-25, 25-8) — Hadley Carlson tallied 15 kills, four aces and 17 blocks and Grace Parry 27 assists and six aces to lead the Cardinals to the Dakota Valley Conference win.

Arlington, now 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference, also got seven kills from Erin Haufschild.

St. Mary (9-3 and 1-2) received four kills and five kills from Brianna Griffin; five assists and three blocks from Ella Griffin; three assists and seven digs from Brianna Lindeman; three kills and 19 digs from Courtney Brown; and three kills and five digs from Mya Heinitz.

Aberdeen Roncalli 3, Webster Area 2 (25-17, 24-26, 25-16, 23-25, 15-9) — The Cavaliers took the Northeast Conference match in five sets to up their record to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the league.

Webster Area (8-9 and 4-1) was led by Morgan Jager, who was 14-14 serving and 32-33 spiking with eight kills and 17 digs; Elliott Steiner, 15-16 serving and 45-45 setting with seven assists and two solo and two block assists; Baylie Somsen, 24-25 serving with four aces and 53-54 setting with 11 assists; Bayleann Moen, 16-22 spiking with nine kills; Mikaela Wagner, 15-17 serving with one ace and one solo and three block assists; and Emily Richie, 24 digs.

Redfield 3, Britton-Hecla 0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-23) — The Pheasants, now 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the league, won the Northeast Conference match with four aces and nine digs from Denae Paulson, 20 assists from Camryn Rohlfs, nine kills from Gracie Fast and six kills and one solo and three block assists from Katie Rozell.

Jenna Werner produced eight kills, Chloe Fuhrman seven assists, Alyssa James three kills and Jayden Bender five digs for the Braves (8-5 and 2-3).

Northwestern 3, Waubay-Summit 0 (25-6, 25-8, 25-13) — The fifth-rated Wildcats improved to 15-3 on the season with the non-conference win.

Ella Haven recorded 11 kills and seven digs, Paytron Grandpre and Teryn Sparling each three aces, Brooklinn Halverson 28 assists, Emma Grandpre seven kills and Ashley Haven seven digs for Northwestern.

Liza Purdy converted seven of seven serves and also made three kills for Waubay-Summit (5-12). Tasha Zirbel had five assists, Hollie O’Riley six digs and Kailee Berger four digs.

Sisseton 3, Deuel 0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-18) — The Redmen notched the Northeast Conference sweep, improving to 2-9 overall and 1-3 in the NEC.

Deuel slipped to 2-12 and 1-5.

Groton Area 3, Clark-Willow Lake 0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-16) — The Tigers improved to 3-5 overall and 3-1 in the Northeast Conference.

The Cyclones slipped to 4-9 and 0-3.
