Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit New York City for an in-person engagement for the charity concert Global Citizen Live on Saturday, Sept. 25. Though the royal couple plans to promote vaccine equity, the British tabloids start to compare their trip to that of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2014.

Insider reported Prince Harry and Markle arrived in NYC on Wednesday, Sept. 22. They, then, made their first appearance at the One World Observatory on Thursday, Sept. 23.

From here, the British tabloids started to criticize the two, from their outfits to their movements. The Daily Mail questioned the number of jewelry the former actress was wearing during the observatory visit.

Alternatively, The Scottish Sun said it was "embarrassing" that the pair treated their trip like a royal tour. If these are not yet enough, The Mirror chimed in and revealed a body-image expert saw Prince Harry and Meghan's appearances as anxious, despite looking affectionate and smiling all the while.

Evidently, these British tabloids' coverage of their Big Apple outing was way different from how they covered Prince William and Kate's trip here in 2014. Despite apparently doing the same thing, the Sussexes were heavily criticized, while the Cambridges were praised.

These news outlets commended Kate for wearing a pink coat during a 9/11 memorial visit while mocked the former "Suits" star for wearing black. It has been a common thing to wear black at memorial sites.

They also targeted Prince Harry and Meghan's stay at the Carlyle Hotel, where the future King and Queen consort stayed then. The Daily Mail wrote at the time that the favorite royals stayed at Princess Diana's go-to hotel, while the article made for the controversial royals focused mostly on leaving their kids at home and their $1,300 room price.

Meanwhile, talking about the hotel, the late Princess of Wales used to frequently stay at the 1,800-square-foot Royal Suite of the hotel's 22nd floor, per Page Six. Though the publication did not reveal how much it cost then, it is now, reportedly, worth $8,000 per night.

In an interview with Architectural Digest, the hotel's former managing director Giovanni Beretta revealed the Royal Suite was one of the most favorites at Carlyle. "You truly feel as if you are stepping into a grand residence and wishing the walls could talk," he said.

Prince Harry and Meghan's NYC trip is their first big public outing together after stepping down as senior royals in early 2020.
