President Joe Biden may claim that he doesn’t support the “defund the police” movement, but does his favorite ice cream?

Ben & Jerry’s rolled out a new flavor of ice cream last week called “Change is Brewing.” It will help fund Black Lives Matter’s efforts to “divest from systems that criminalize Black communities & invest in a vision of public safety that allows everyone to breathe free.”

“The flavor supports the vision of the world in which every community is safe, and everyone, including black and brown people, can thrive,” Ben & Jerry’s U.S. Activism Manager Jabari Pall said at a press conference in New York. Yes, we checked, and apparently, “activism manager” is a real job.

According to the company’s website, the flavor itself is a mix of cold-brew coffee ice cream, marshmallow swirls, and fudge brownies. “Grab your spoon & dig into a flavor boldly celebrating safety & liberation for all,” the company says on its website.

If only Black Lives Matter and the “defund the police” movement actually promoted “safety.” Unfortunately, according to a recent study of BLM protests, while the movement did cause a 15% drop in lethal encounters involving police in cities where there were protests, overall homicides in those same cities rose by 10%.

And since homicides far outnumber police shootings, that means BLM protests are getting thousands of primarily black people killed every year.

Maybe Biden can take a break from his favorite pastime of licking ice cream cones and explain to Ben & Jerry’s why the police need to be funded.
