Previous iterations of the Kia Sorento haven’t been exactly what we would call ‘desirable.’ However, with the latest generation, the South Korean car manufacturer has managed to create an SUV that isn’t just appealing but also an excellent all-rounder to live with.

The design of the new model is so striking, in fact, that it recently inspired the popular YouTuber behind the Woodworking Art channel to carve a 1:11 scale model of the Sorento out of wood.

For his latest model, the craftsman used Fujian cypress wood and initially started out with a solid block of it before slowly cutting out the basic shape of the SUV. He was then able to carve out a large section of the wood to open up the cabin. After the basic shape has been formed, simple hand tools including a chisel are used to create some of the more intricate designs.

For example, a chisel is used to create the front fascia of the Sorento, including its tiger-nose grille and aggressive headlights. The YouTuber also uses a chisel to replicate the engine bay of the Kia and continues his work by creating a functional tailgate.

Like other models from Woodworking Art, the SUV is underpinned by a functional wooden chassis with suspension and steering. It even includes a seven-seat layout just like the real thing and has a spare wheel mounted under the body.
