3 detained after pursuit ends in crash in Koreatown: LAPD

Three men from Tennessee were in custody following a pursuit that ended in a crash in Koreatown Thursday evening, police said.

The chase began in Hollywood, after police received a report of a man with a gun in the area Selma and El Centro avenues, said Officer Mike Lopez, a Los Angeles police spokesperson.

Sky5 arrived above the pursuit around 6:10 p.m. as the sedan was headed south down Western Avenue into Koreatown.

The driver was seen maneuvering dangerously, veering onto the wrong side of the road as the car sped across surface streets and blew through intersections. In the area of Oxford Avenue and Fifth Street, he rammed into the back end of another car before continuing on.

Within five minutes, at Normandie Avenue and Olympic Boulevard, the pursuit vehicle spun out after forcing its way through the intersection and colliding with at least two other cars, losing control of the vehicle.

A driver and two passengers were seen fleeing from the car. Police detained all three within a short period of time.

However, no handgun was recovered, Lopez said.

Police did not immediately identify the men, but Lopez said they were being held on suspicion of felony evasion and narcotics possession with intent to sell.

No further details were available.
