‘The Masked Singer’ spoilers: Who is Hamster?

The Masked Singer” season 6 continues the twist of the Wildcards that was introduced last season. Six celebrities who aren’t part of the original line-up of 10 stars who comprised Group A and Group B get to jump into the competition after it has started. The first of these, the Hamster, appeared in night two of the super-sized premiere, which aired on FOX on September 23. He returned to compete again on episode 4 on October 6 and was back in the Group A final on October 20.

The Hamster replaced the Octopus, who was bounced from the competition at the end of episode 1 on September 22. When he pulled off his mask, we saw that this eight-legged creature was eight-time NBA All-Star Dwight Howard. We had figured out who was hiding in that costume before he sang a note and think we’ve done the same with the Hamster. Keep reading for all “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including the answer to the question, “Who is Hamster”?

Hamster had a lot of fun with all of his songs — the Roy Orbison classic “Oh, Pretty Woman,” the Queen anthem “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and “Sabor a Mi” by Luis Miguel. We agree with the panel that this is someone who makes their living by making people laugh. We think that the Hamster is Rob Schneider.

In the first set of clues, the Hamster talked about working with his famous friends; Schneider still works with his pals from the old days on “Saturday Night Live” including Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and David Spade. He shared in three Emmy nominations for helping to write this late night staple from 1990 to 1992. As a group, “The Masked Singer” contestants have contended for TV’s highest honor a dozen times.

They have also had the dubious distinction of earning 12 Razzie Awards nominations. Schneider accounts for eight of those. Among them a trio of bids for playing “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo.” An iconic scene from that flick was referenced with the shot of the fish tank in the video clues. And the baseball alludes to another of his movie misfires, “Benchwarmers.”

We learned from the promo trailer that the Hamster knows the Piglet. Schneider starred in “The Hot Chick” back in 2002 with Lachey’s then sister-in-law Ashlee Simpson. And the image of Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay is a shout-out to Schneider’s home town.

In his second appearance, the Hamster again mentioned his overnight success that came his way when he was in his 20s and living in a big city; Schneider was 26 when he joined “SNL,” which is shot in New York City. And he gave another shout-out to his long-time friends from that time. In his third turn onstage, he once again referenced working with his friends on a TV show.
