Packing purses to help ladies in Louisiana

Ladies in the Bible Study class at First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs are helping out those impacted by Hurricane Ida by adding a little flair.

Instead of your usual care packages filled with water, can goods, and house hold products, the ladies decided to pack purses filled with goodies such as lip balm, gum, hand held planners, notepads, pens, hand wipes, and mini-Bibles.

Ladies in the class and the community donated gently used purses to pack. The ladies say its just a small gesture to help other women. Bible Study member Deborah Parker said, “None of us ever leave home without our purses. So, we wanted to do something to help and maybe minister and be an encouragement to the ladies who have lost so much down in south Louisiana.”

Bible Study facilitator Donna Cartwright said, “Deborah has an experience from MEMA. Met a lady who had lost her trailer and lost everything and she said I don’t even have a pocket book. That still stuck with her. When she shared that with us, we thought we could do that. We can get pocket books. We can fill them with lady things and I know because we have all suffered loss during different hurricanes how much a personal item means.”

The women will be accepting donations up until next Wednesday. Purse donations can be dropped off at First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs and left at the front office.
