A moose that was seen wandering around Weber State University has died after getting hit by a car, university officials stated.
An image of the young moose was posted to the school's social media page Wednesday evening.
It was seen wading in a pond on campus and caught the attention of many students, who shared their photos and videos of the animal online.
"Due to our location in the foothills of the mountains, our campus attracts wildlife of all shapes and sizes — from deer to wild turkeys to the Canadian geese we know and love," school officials stated.
They said after attempts by police to herd the moose toward the mountains, the moose was struck by a car on Harrison Boulevard and killed.
Officials at Weber State University asked others to "please remember to watch out for our wild friends and keep your distance for your safety and theirs."
