TRAVERSE CITY -- Hockeytown North is back in business as the Detroit Red Wings made their return to Training Camp at Centre Ice Arena for the first time in two years.
After a Covid-shortened season a year ago the Wings are looking to get back to the rebuild and continue to gain momentum for years to come with GM Steve Yzerman entering his third season and head coach Jeff Blashill entering his seventh.
Team leaders Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi are back on the front line although Bertuzzi has been the talk of camp so far being the only member of the team choosing not to be vaccinated. Due to Canadian restrictions he will not be able to travel with the team for the nine games they play north of the border this year.
Some big signings and trades took place in the offseason including center Pius Suter in free agency, while trading for defenseman Nick Leddy and goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic.
The team will also look to add depth from its draft classes with defenseman Moritz Seider (1st round 2019) and forward Lucas Raymond (1st round 2020).
