Family displaced after large fire damages home in Windsor Mill
A family is without a home following a violent fire in Windsor Mill Thursday evening.Baltimore County fire crews took hours to get the blaze under control."When Capt. Roy pulled over top, we had fire that was well up into the attic, probably for some time before we arrived. That fire had burned its way up through the actual roof by the time our units had got there." Capt. Len Stewart, of the Baltimore County Fire Department said. SkyTeam 11 was above the fire engulfing a home in Windsor Mill."The fire did start to the rear of the dwelling, worked its way well up into the attic, and by that time it was too much fire, too much volume for them to control quickly," Stewart said.Officials said the fire started shortly after 5:30 p.m. at a home on Rices Lane.Crews, initially arriving to the scene, with word of at least two people were possibly trapped inside."They had reports of people screaming, so they made the decision to go in with the water they had, try to knock (it down), and get those people in, out," Stewart said. "Because of where the fire started and where it was at, they weren't in any obvious, immediate danger, but I'm sure -- and I'm just speculating at this point in time, they probably were trying to go in and see what they can do, if not get any of their belongings out."Tackling the blaze was the hard part as 1,200 feet of hose, which is about the size of four football fields, had to be deployed."We have a hydrant that is a little over 1,000 feet away," Stewart said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation."We're really always thankful when nobody gets hurt. Thankfully, most of the time, something can be replaced. But nobody's hurt. No one's in the hospital. We didn't transport anybody, so that's always a great thing," Stewart said. All of the occupants made it out safely, but officials told 11 News the house tonight is a total loss.

"When Capt. Roy pulled over top, we had fire that was well up into the attic, probably for some time before we arrived. That fire had burned its way up through the actual roof by the time our units had got there." Capt. Len Stewart, of the Baltimore County Fire Department said.

SkyTeam 11 was above the fire engulfing a home in Windsor Mill.

"The fire did start to the rear of the dwelling, worked its way well up into the attic, and by that time it was too much fire, too much volume for them to control quickly," Stewart said.

Officials said the fire started shortly after 5:30 p.m. at a home on Rices Lane.

Crews, initially arriving to the scene, with word of at least two people were possibly trapped inside.

"They had reports of people screaming, so they made the decision to go in with the water they had, try to knock (it down), and get those people in, out," Stewart said. "Because of where the fire started and where it was at, they weren't in any obvious, immediate danger, but I'm sure -- and I'm just speculating at this point in time, they probably were trying to go in and see what they can do, if not get any of their belongings out."

Tackling the blaze was the hard part as 1,200 feet of hose, which is about the size of four football fields, had to be deployed.

"We have a hydrant that is a little over 1,000 feet away," Stewart said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

"We're really always thankful when nobody gets hurt. Thankfully, most of the time, something can be replaced. But nobody's hurt. No one's in the hospital. We didn't transport anybody, so that's always a great thing," Stewart said.

All of the occupants made it out safely, but officials told 11 News the house tonight is a total loss.
