Two individuals are dead following a morning crash Sept. 23 involving a semi-truck in Elyria on state Route 57 just south of the intersection with North Abbe Road, according to a news release from the Elyria Police Department.

At 11:26 a.m., Elyria police responded to the scene for the crash in which a Freightliner semi-truck driven by a 57-year-old Lorain man traveling northbound lost control and crossed median into the southbound lane, striking a Dodge Caravan, the release said.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge were pronounced dead at the scene.

After striking the Dodge, the trailer of the semi-truck struck a Cadillac SRX and a Volkswagen Atlas, according to the release.

Both drivers of the vehicles were transported to UH-Elyria Medical Center for treatment, the release said.

The release did not specify any injuries to the driver of the semi-truck.

The Elyria Police Department is not releasing the identities of the deceased pending the notification of family.

No charges have been filed in the crash and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
