When Ozzie Newsome retired as Ravens GM at the end of the 2018 season, we were told that he wasn't going away entirely. He'd still be around to consult on personnel matters.
Those of us who know him knew exactly what that meant. One of his acolytes, former Browns GM Phil Savage, told me once that he'd never seen anyone who loved to watch tape more than Ozzie.
All that tape-watching has paid off numerous times for the Ravens, and that continues to this very day.
Apparently, it led to Odafe Oweh being here. You know, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Week?
Let's let defensive coordinator Wink Martindale tell the story:
A Hall of Famer as a player, Newsome could easily make the hall as a GM, too if the rules allowed it. The man built two Super Bowl champions twelve years apart. (Think about that for a minute)
The Ravens will be happy to let him watch tape to his heart's content for as long as he wants to.
Bank on that.
