ASU Football: Larry Turner-Gooden latest recruit to de-commit from Arizona State

Welp.

The prized piece of Arizona State’s slowly diminshing 2022 recruiting class is gone. Four-star athlete Larry Turner-Gooden announced on his Twitter that he will be reopening his recruitment and de-committing from Arizona State Thursday.

At one point — before the news of the NCAA Investigation within the Sun Devil football program — the Sun Devils had a group that looked like quite the secondary class coming in between Turner-Gooden, Alfonzo Allen and Jaylin Marshall. The trio are now all probably headed elsewhere.

While Allen and Marshall are more fringe four-star recruits, Turner-Gooden is not. The now former Sun Devil commit is ranked 118th overall in 247Sports’ 2022 class. He appears he’s likely headed to Penn State, Texas or a program of that nature.

Maybe this has to do with what could be pending punishment from the NCAA or maybe not. Turner-Gooden is coming off a visit to Penn State, in which it had its “Whiteout” game against Auburn and provided an environment that isn’t quite found in Tempe.

The problem now is that the Sun Devils have four commitments in the 2022 class. Four is currently the the fewest of any Power 5 team in the country. Arizona State’s top recruiters — Chris Hawkins, Prentice Gill and Adam Breneman — can’t exactly hit the recruiting trails while on paid administrative leave.

Let’s just say that the once bright future for the Sun Devils might be becoming a sunset rather quickly.
