Boil water advisory issued for much of Penn Hills after mouse discovered in Oakmont Water Authority tank

The Oakmont Water Authority has issued a boil water advisory for much of the Penn Hills water supply region.

On Wednesday, a small mouse was discovered in one of the water tanks during a routine inspection, meaning that disease-causing organisms might have entered the water.

Before drinking water, the water authority recommends that people in the affected areas bring their water to a boil for one minute, then let it cool. The other option is to drink bottled water.

For any consumption of water, whether through drinking, teeth brushing or cooking, people should use boiled or bottled water. The Oakmont Water Authority hopes to have the issue resolved by Sept. 30.

The water authority says people in the affected areas should continue boiling their water until the water authority says it is safe to stop doing so.
