Two osprey raptors rescued from the Holiday Farm Fire last year have been released from captivity and are now on their own.
We reported a couple weeks ago, Lachlan and Georgina were saved from an unsafe nesting area after the mother abandoned them during the devastating wildfire.
They were just chicks at the time and grew up with the support of the Cascades Raptor Center in Eugene.
100 days later, they have been set free into the great outdoors at Munsel Lake in Florence.
However, the center's veterinarian says one raptor was a little hesitant upon the release. But the other, not so much.
"Lachlan went out straight away and flew into the trees and landed there,” said Dr. Ulrike Streicher. (Georgina) took her time and looked at the water. But then it was spectacular, and she flew across the lake and was like, ooooh, that's a long distance to fly. But then she learned what her wings are for."
Doctor Streicher says the raptors will most likely migrate south for the winter to South America.
They will also look to other raptors to learn how to hunt and fish.
