Re “Thomas lashes judges for turns into politics” (Sept. 17):

Justice Thomas, you have hit the nail on the head.

The Supreme Court justices should be free of political motivations.

They should isolate themselves from responding to political motivations and rule on the constitutional issues involved and not cave into the wishes of the political party that appointed them.

I implore you, Justice Thomas, to look in the mirror and justify why you went along with the majority and ruled in favor of issuing an order that you knew violated the Constitution.

I am referring to the Texas abortion issue that you supported

By the way, are you, and the majority of justices, willing to allow any state to pass similar legislation relative to gun control, discrimination or other issues that were thought to be settled law?

The U.S. Constitution and our current socialist trends

Re “Reflecting on our great U.S. Constitution” (Sept. 17):

I must compliment you on one of the finest editorials I have ever read and suggest it be repeated every year.

It affirms the aims of the framers of our country and is a reminder of the need to cautious of veering from the greatest republic on Earth.

I am very concerned about the present attempts now being proposed by efforts of those in power, to alter our form of government by the socialist trends being introduced by the present rulers.

The question now is “who is watching the store?”

The staggering funds being proposed do not seem fiscally sound and may change our way of life.

The actions of our president scare the wits out of me.

Military decisions have been done in poor taste, such as the rapid departure from Afghanistan with no way of getting our troops, Americans, Afghan supporters and tons of military equipment safely preserved, instead of supplying the Taliban group.

In the 20 years of our occupation there, weren’t we aware of the situation regarding the Taliban and consider some reasonable way of leaving?

Consider now the opinions of our country.

We can be a forceful help to others that we have the capability to help when they are in need of aid from us.
