Summit County Sheriff identified the two people in the car that crashed on US 40 after a high-speed chase yesterday morning. Daisha Reynolds, 19, of Salt Lake City, was ejected from the car when it rolled over and died at the scene.

The driver was Charles Caster, 22, also of Salt Lake City. He is in critical condition and was airlifted to a hospital after the crash. The incident is being investigated by the state Attorney General’s office, West Valley Police Department, Park City Police Department, and the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.

The multi-county incident began in Wasatch County around 10 a.m. yesterday after sheriff’s deputies were investigating a report of a car stolen from a Hideout parking lot, and ended in Summit County on US 40 near mile marker two.

When the driver of the stolen vehicle swerved to avoid a tire deflating device, the vehicle lost control and crashed off the highway. The incident closed US 40 westbound for several hours.

The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, Summit County Sheriff’s Office, and the Utah Highway Patrol offered condolences to the family and friends of the victim, and asked anyone with information about the incident to call 435-615-3601.
