An Indian Restaurant Arrives at Time Out Chicago Market Food Hall

Bar Goa, the upcoming River North Indian restaurant with street food and tropical drinks, is set to open next week along Hubbard Street. But that’s not the only news from the owners: They’re opening another location, taking over a space inside Time Out Market Chicago food hall in Fulton Market.

The River North location is inside the former Sleeping Turtle space, and co-owner Rina Mallick has designed a breezy room to remind customers of the beaches of Indian state along the Arabian Sea. That location, 116 W. Hubbard Street, opens on September 29. Rina Mallick and her husband Manish also own the Chicago location of Rooh, the modern Indian restaurant on Randolph Street in West Loop.

While the Mallicks were busy preparing their River North space, they remained in contact with management from Time Out Market, the food hall from the magazine of the same name. Time Out was determined to add diversity to its vendor lineup, and they were enamored with Bar Goa being a Chicago-born brand. They want to curate local flavor inside their complex with current tenants including Arami sushi, Mini Mott burgers, and Shawn Michelle’s ice cream.

At the food hall, Bar Goa will offer an abbreviated version of the menu it will offer in River North. Expect dishes like a pork vindaloo “poi-wich” and a chicken cafreal stew with basmati rice. As a nod to Goa’s history — it was a Portuguese colony for nearly 450 years — the stall will also serve peri peri seasoned fries. The Mallicks have family in Goa their experiences led them developing Bar Goa. Bar Goa at Time Out Market should open on Monday, October 4.

In other Time Out news, the food hall is now open seven days a week for the first time since the pandemic began.
