WWE Had Interest in Signing Britt Baker Earlier This Year
– Speaking on today’s edition of Oral Sessions (via Fightful), new AEW star Adam Cole revealed to Renee Paquette that WWE NXT had interest in bringing in his real-life girlfriend, Dr. Britt Baker, who is currently AEW Women’s World champion. Cole stated that that NXT officials actually told him at one point, “Hey, if Britt is available please let us know.” However, Baker was under contract to AEW at the time, and Cole was under contract with NXT. Fightful Select has an update on NXT’s interest in Dr. Baker.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Dr. Baker signed a contract extension with AEW. Fightful noted that some months when it was expected that Adam Cole’s previous WWE deal was going to expire, there was a belief that Dr. Baker’s contract would’ve nearing its end this year as well. WWE reportedly wanted to make a play to sign Britt Baker if she became a free agent. However, she ultimately ended up re-upping with AEW.
The report added that no formal talks between WWE and Dr. Baker ever took place. Also, WWE did not make any overtures for Baker beforehand in order to avoid contract tampering.
Adam Cole would would later finish up with WWE NXT in August. He then signed with AEW and made his debut at All Out this month.
