Jennifer Lopez, action star, is coming to Netflix next spring.

Today the streamer released the first teaser for Lopez's upcoming thriller The Mother, which is set to premiere in May 2023. The film stars the multi-hyphenate as a deadly assassin who "comes out of hiding to protect the daughter (newcomer Lucy Paez) she gave up years ago, while on the run from dangerous men."

The one-minute clip (seen above) shows Lopez's character as she trains in the snow-capped wilderness, with a tense soundtrack focused on the assassin's breath as she does pull-ups. It then shows Lopez saying, "she needs protection right now," before a montage shows her and her daughter escaping unknown assailants.

"If there's trouble, come find me," she says at the end of the teaser.

The highly-anticipated film has a star-studded cast, with Variety previously reporting thatGael García Bernal (Y Tu Mamá También, Mozart in the Jungle), Omari Hardwick (Power, Sorry to Bother You), and Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love, The Handmaid's Tale) had joined the film. Hardwick will reportedly play an FBI agent who is an ally to Lopez's character, while Fiennes and Bernal will play the aforementioned "dangerous men" chasing the mother-daughter duo.

The film is directed by Niki Caro (who took on Disney's recent live-action Mulan remake) with a script penned by Lovecraft Country's showrunner, Misha Green. Benny Medina and Molly Allen will serve as executive producers.

The Mother marks Lopez's first major film for Netflix and follows her landmark production deal with the streaming giant and her company Nuyorican Productions. Her first Netflix collaboration, a career-retrospective documentary named Halftime, premiered on the streamer in June 2022.

"I am excited to announce my new partnership with Netflix," she said in a statement per Variety back in June. "Elaine, Benny and I believe there is no better home for us than a forward-leaning content creation company that seeks to defy conventional wisdom and directly market to the millions across the globe who no longer view art and entertainment with the kind of boundaries and limitations of the past."
