Names released in fatal van crash

BATESVILLE, Ark. (KAIT) - Arkansas State Police have identified two people involved in a crash that killed a bus driver and a child.

The collision happened at 5:53 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, on U.S. Highway 167 in Batesville.

According to the preliminary fatal crash report, 20-year-old Cody L. Conboy of Greenbrier was northbound when his 2016 GMC Sierra drove into the southbound lane, colliding with a 2019 Chevrolet Express van driven by 55-year-old Tammy J. Gardner of Hardy.

Gardner and an unidentified child on the van were killed.

Conboy and another child passenger on the van suffered injuries. According to the report, the child was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

Following the crash, STARS Academy of Batesville stated on social media that one of its “precious children” and a bus driver were killed in the crash.

“Our deepest sympathies and prayers to all families that lost loved ones,” the statement read. “According to Arkansas State Police, the Medicaid Transport van was not at fault.”
