A South Carolina Circuit Court Judge Craig Brown sentenced Deangelo L. Thomas,28, of Darlington Thursday morning to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of murdering his girlfriend in October of 2018 at a Florence home, according to Twelfth Circuit Solicitor Ed Clements.
Clements said it took the jury less than 45 minutes to come back with a verdict.
19-year-old Vernita “Nita” White was shot and killed at a home on Middleton Avenue in the Woodmont subdivision in Florence.
Officers said White lived at the residence where the shooting occurred.
She worked at Burger King in Florence and was well loved by her coworkers.
They did a balloon release for White shortly after her death.
Friends say she always had a smile on her face and was very respectful.
Thomas must serve 85% of his sentence before he's eligible for parole.
