By Dan Ambrose: Canelo Alvarez’s mom reportedly thanked him for going after Caleb Plant after using the expletive “mother f***” during their press conference last Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs) shoved IBF super middleweight champion Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) during their face-off after he was purportedly called him a “Mother f***.”
Apparently, Canelo took the expletive from Plant literally, believing he meant it as an insult towards his actual mother. However, Plant and many boxing fans don’t believe Canelo was angry about Plant using the MF expletive.
Instead, they think what made Canelo lose control was Plant calling him a “drug cheat” repeatedly during the press conference.
What’s obvious is that Plant won the first press conference by getting into Canelo’s head with his insults, causing him to snap and make things physical. Plant got Canelo so worked up with his insults that he lost control.
Why did Canelo use the “mother f***” expletive on Demetrius Andrade?
What’s unclear is why Canelo used the same “mother f***” term last May when he used this expletive on Demetrius Andrade?
Did Canelo feel that it was OK to use that insult against Andrade but didn’t like when he had to experience the same treatment?
Plant says Canelo is angry about being called a “Drug cheat”
Caleb doesn’t believe for a second that Canelo was upset about being called a “mother f****.” He considers what angered Canelo was being called a “drug cheat” at the press conference and being reminded of his six-month suspension for testing positive for the banned PED clenbuterol.
Plant choosing to remind the media and the fans of Canelo’s past involving PEDS seemed to anger him, as you would expect.
As such, by the time the two met for the face-off, it was inevitable that Canelo would get physical with Plant.
It’s too bad Showtime didn’t have some security in between them to prevent this from happening because it could prevent Plant from suffering an eye injury, which may prevent him from sparring for a couple of weeks.
“My mom was angry too. She said, ‘Thank you, son, for showing me respect. You need to win,'” said Canelo’s mom via @MichaelBensonn.

Dana White sounds off on Canelo – Plant press conference
“You ripped Canelo Alvarez vs. Caleb Plant, Dana. You ripped the broadcaster Showtime to allow the boxers to exchange punches at a press conference,” said Max Kellerman to ESPN MMA in talking about UFC president Dana White voicing his anger at the lack of control of the fighters at their press conference last Tuesday.
“The quote is, ‘Showtime couldn’t be bleeping dumber for what happened,” said Kellerman in repeating what Dana White had been told that was critical about the lack of security presence for the Canelo – Plant press conference.
“What about it got under your skin?” asked Kellerman to White.
“It’s like, are these guys serious? Do you not know the fight business? Do you not know how this works? Are you crazy?” said Dana White about the Canelo vs. Plant brawl.
“You’re going to let two alpha males square off like that? I’m not blaming Canelo or Plant at all. This is what happens when you get two guys in their face before they’re about to fight.
“You have to have somebody there or multiple people to control that even if it looks like it’s going to break out. When you’ve got two guys squaring off and looking like they’re getting ready to fight, you can’t let one guy [Canelo] disrespect the other guy.
“You have to make sure they don’t touch each other. Even when I’m standing in the middle of the guys, sometimes it still happens.
“It’s the dumbest thing [lack of control at the Canelo vs. Plant press conference] I’ve ever seen, but it doesn’t shock me from Showtime,” said White.
From Showtime’s standpoint, Canelo has only once pushed one of his opponents during a face-off, and that was with Gennadiy Golovkin during their rematch.
Similarly, there was a lot of bad blood with Canelo for that fight, as GGG was upset about the first fight.
