A local ranch stepped in to help a starving horse that was found wandering in the desert near Gila Bend, reported 12 News.

Hope Ranch Arizona’s operator Misian Cory took the stray horse in and is in the process of nursing her back to health with electrolytes and supplements.

Cory said, “This is probably the most heartbreaking rescue that we’ve done. I’ve never seen one that bad.”

Cory's phone started blowing up a few days ago when friends and residents in the area saw the horse wandering around. The manager of the ranch, along with Maricopa County Sheriffs Office, worked to locate the horse. Cory said that when she found the horse, she wasn’t even sure if it would make it through the night.

This led the horse’s new caregiver to name her “Blessing.”

Cory said, “She has zero body fat. When you see her in person, it’s literally a walking skeleton. I don’t know how she made it this long honestly.”

The ranch is easing her back into eating a normal diet, but right now she’s just being fed little by little until her body can handle a typical diet. Cory said, “You can’t feed her too much because that can also harm them when they’ve been that starved.”

Hope Ranch is taking donations that will go toward the horses medical expenses. The ranch is hoping that Blessing will recover someday to be trained to provide equine therapy to young people.
