The late hip-hop legend and Patchogue native Biz Markie not only made an impact on the music industry but also left a significant mark on his hometown.
Markie, the “Clown Prince of Hip-Hop,” who grew up in Patchogue, passed away Friday, July 16. He was 57.
In honor of his contributions as a rapper, beatboxer, actor, DJ, and philanthropist, South Street in Patchogue will be renamed “Biz Markie Way” in memory of the artist, born Marcel Theo Hall.
The street name dedication ceremony is open to the public and will be held this Saturday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. at the staging area behind the 6th District Court, located at 150 West Main St.
Notable appearances include DJ Wade, DJ Diamond The Artist, flutist Dwayne Kerr, and beatboxer Aaron Grant.
Tracy Todd Hunter of Of Colors Collective Arts Space spearheaded the project in collaboration with Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri and the Greater Patchogue Foundation.
