“I just want my life back,” says Britney Spears in a new trailer for “Britney vs Spears.” Erin Lee Carr’s latest explores yet another headline-making legal case. She’s following up “How to Fix a Drug Scandal,” “At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal,” and “I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth vs. Michelle Carter” with a documentary taking audiences behind the scenes of Spears’ highly publicized conservatorship and the popstar’s struggle for freedom and independence.
Spears, we’re told, has been “silenced to speak about anything that’s really going on.” Carr herself appears in the spot. “What was going on inside the conservatorship?” she asks. “No one would talk — until they did.” One interviewee describes Spears’ situation as “an epic fail of the legal system.” As Spears declares, “I deserve to have the same rights as anybody does. It’s been 13 years and it’s enough.”
Carr’s other credits include “Mommy Dead and Dearest” and “Thought Crimes.”
“Britney vs Spears” launches on Netflix September 28. It follows the release of this year’s “Framing Britney Spears,” a buzzy New York Times doc exploring the “Baby One More Time” singer’s mistreatment in the media and courtroom.
