From the moment Chevrolet unveiled the C8 Corvette, it was inevitable that tuning companies would flood to the mid-engine sports car and begin modifying it. This particular ‘Vette from FuelTech is one of the most impressive we’ve come across.

Eager to lift grunt from the 6.2-liter V8 engine, FuelTech has equipped the car with a pair of Garrett G35-900 turbochargers. The car also features a second fuel delivery system, a parallel-running ECU, and a new control unit for the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

While recently strapped to a hub dyno, the car pumped out an incredible 1,350 hp at the wheels and the tuner believes it has around 1,500 hp at the crank. That is triple the car’s standard 495 hp and proves that while the car’s stock ECU still hasn’t been cracked, tuners are working out ways to get around it, allowing them to achieve some serious horsepower gains.

Cracking into the car’s ECU has proved very difficult as it is underpinned by GM’s Global B architecture that features strict cybersecurity measures and has been designed to be hack-proof.

Speaking about the ECU a few months ago, Corvette executive chief engineer Tadge Juechter said that General Motors wouldn’t help tuners get access into the car’s complex computers.

“The aftermarket crew is very talented and resourceful,” Juechter said. “They have been for years. So our business model doesn’t really cater to the aftermarket, we have to do all the things internally between Corvette just like any other General Motors product. Our desire is to make the car as hackproof as possible to protect our customers.”
