One of Clintonville's most popular brunch spots will close permanently this weekend.

The owners of McCarthy's Wildflower Cafe on Indianola Avenue announced the news on the cafe's Instagram page earlier this week.

Sunday will be the restaurant's last day, according to the post.

A representative of the Wildflower Cafe did not respond to messages seeking comment.

The social media announcement says running the cafe is taxing and keeping the establishment open isn't possible, even with strong backing from its loyal clientele.

"It has been an impossibly difficult decision to make," the post says. "Even with the incredible support of the community, the last few years have been deeply challenging not only financially and logistically, but also emotionally. We are simply exhausted."

The Clintonville institution opened more than two decades ago and garnered a strong local following through the years.

Wildflower has a small interior filled with art of wildflowers, a handful of tables and a few bar seats. The eatery sells breakfast and lunch food, including burritos and burgers, and expanded into dinner service in recent years pre-pandemic.

It was closed to dine-in service for much of the pandemic.
