Yesterday, NorthTexas law enforcement agencies and fire departments participated in the 13th annual Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Motorcade.

The motorcade traveled from DFW International Airport to Gainesville, and culminated in a ceremony to honor new Medal of Honor recipient Michael Fitzmaurice.

Fitzmaurice threw himself over an explosive to save three fellow soldiers while serving in Vietnam.

Since 2001, the Medal of Honor Host City Program, and the city of Gainesville, has hosted 56 of the 74 living Medal of Honor Recipients. Fitzmaurice was met with words of support and encouragement upon his arrival at North Central Texas College.

Observer Lindsay Merrett told KXII, "I believe that we should show support to all of these fellow veterans because without them we wouldn’t have the freedoms that we have today and so we should support them as much as we can."

Gary Cox, board Member on the Medal of Honor Host City Program, added, "It shows us that we still hold that most patriotic small town and it makes us feel good to see people come out and support.'
