RÜFÜS DU SOL set a date for fourth studio album to the tune of third LP single, ‘On My Knees’
After two album singles, “Alive” and “Next to Me,” RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s fourth studio LP has both a name and a date. Surrender, the successor to 2018’s SOLACE, will land on October 21 and now, just shy of a month from the project’s due date, Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George, and James Hunt are continuing to shape Surrender‘s sound through a heady rollout of pre-album singles that triangulates with “On My Knees.”
Arriving via the Aussie trio’s own Rose Avenue Records, as well as Reprise/Warner Records, “On My Knees” finds RÜFÜS DU SOL leaning into the darker sensibilities that have so frequently conferred a brooding, contemplative character to their catalog, from the song’s lyrical narrative to its technical framework. It’s “definitely one of the most banging tracks” on the forthcoming record, according to Hunt, who reflected on the outfit’s tonal decisions regarding “On My Knees” and its reception on the road, stating,
“For this song we had a lot of fun writing something that was darker, driving and a little more edgy. It’s definitely one of the most banging tracks on the record—we referenced some of our favorite club music for the drum programming and had fun envisioning the time when we could finally play this live. It had an amazing reaction at our Red Rocks shows last month which was really special for us.”
Red Rocks remains inextricably tied to “On My Knees,” with its accompanying visual arising as a montage of film roll from one of RÜFÜS DU SOL’s rehearsals at the amphitheatre in August.
